New courses and support

We are pleased to be supporting a number of new courses and initiatives to guide and equip parents through separation and its aftermath.

Our colleagues at Shared Parenting Scotland are offering two UK-wide support courses. Thanks to recent funding, there are currently offered free for veterans of all the British armed forces and for parents currently serving in the British Army.

Love, Loss and Living is an interactive, six-week online course, supplemented by in-person training sessions. This course is designed to help parents understand and manage the grief associated with being separated from their children. It provides practical strategies and emotional support to cope with this difficult transition. Cost £50.

New Ways For Families™ is a comprehensive ten-module online course, accompanied by three one-on-one coaching sessions. This course equips separated parents with key behavioural skills to support themselves and their children through the separation process. It also aims to help parents avoid costly legal fees by fostering better communication and problem-solving skills. Cost £270.

Sign up directly with SPS and please mention that you heard about them through Families Need Fathers, Both Parents Matter.

The Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities programme is offering free and inclusive online Stronger Relationship courses , designed to help you develop better family relationships and reduce parental conflict, whether with your ex or current partner or with others involved in raising your children. This course (normally priced at £175) is designed for all parents and main carers wanting to improve their communication and focus on the needs of their children. Suitable for all co-parents, wherever they are on their parenting journey, and free to UK residents until the end of the year. Certificate on completion.

As part of its Reducing Parental Conflict programme, the DWP has worked with the relationship experts Relate to develop:

  • a Relationship Advice AI Bot
  • a Voice of the Child AI bot, telling parents what children are likely to be thinking and feeling during periods of conflict. This is useful as the children may not be able to articulate what they are thinking/feeling. It can help draw parents out of ‘battle mentality’, to consider others.
  • a Message-writing AI Bot called ‘Sounding Board bot’ – helps with those tricky What’s App messages and emails to the mother/father.
  • signpost to free local relationship support via their Postcode Finder

and which can all be found at  We can Relate to parental conflict | Relate.

Please also try the new Separating-Better app for parents that are separating or have separated (Download the app for IOS devicesDownload the app for Android devices). The App is in fact in testing until November so interaction now will help improve learning for future development.

And last and definitely not least, our Central London branch continue to provide the following services exclusively to Both Parents Matter members:

  • free legal advice clinics with Anthony Gold solicitors
  • discounts for supervised contact in the London area
  • online advice on financial remedies and CMS

“ Excellent charity, and volunteers that gives hope and support with practical information, not only to fathers but grandparents / extended family too. Families Need Fathers Testimonials - What Our Service Users Say

” I don’t know how I would have coped without the Shared Parenting knowledge and empowerment from the peer support of Both Parents Matter.”

Families Need Fathers Testimonials - What Our Service Users Say

” Both Parents Matter taught me about the realities of the UK Family Court system at a time when I was very vulnerable and in need of guidance. Their ‘Surviving Separation’ course is excellent. ”

Families Need Fathers Testimonials - What Our Service Users Say

” The only charity to support any parent or grandparent to regain contact with their child or children, I regularly attend the Manchester group once a month to provide support. ”

Families Need Fathers Testimonials - What Our Service Users Say

” Without this group I would have been lost. I am the grandmother of a son who had his children taken away by the mother and false allegations submitted to ensure no contact. It has been heart breaking but reading the stories, being part of a community and having access to meetings gives information, advice and the hope and knowledge that it can change. I will keep supporting my son and grandchildren so they are together in the future. ”

Families Need Fathers Testimonials - What Our Service Users Say

” An inclusive organisation that supports mothers, fathers, and ultimately children. I have personally found their support to be invaluable and truly believe it has saved my life and helped me become a stronger, resilient, and positive human being, father, and husband. They have educated and coached with my own personal development, positive co-parenting, positive parenting, and Family Court and the legal/court process. In that order. The peer-to-peer support is unmatched…I’ve never experienced a more active and supportive group of individuals brought together by a single goal – Happy Families! ”
